Pete Chavez

Almost 5 years ago I was overweight and couldn't run for two minutes at one time (seriously).  I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and pretty much scared into exercising what started out as walking to lose weight slowly turned into wanting to run a mile without stopping. When I finally did it, it was the best feeling I've ever felt from there miles turned into 5k races then a 10k race, half marathon and finally a marathon on my birthday on the one year anniversary of running. That was my last road race.

I found the love of trails shortly thereafter and signed up for my first ultra. Ever since I've been in love with the mountains and now the desert, it's just the love of running free on the trails that I love.
Over two years ago I found CVTR in a Google search and I contacted Erica Gratton and she told me I should come to a group run. Well after my wife Doenice insisted I go because I always ran alone I went and she actually told me this "make friends and get at least one phone number before you come home". So I did and the rest is history I've never met such amazing and wonderful people that I now call family.

I'm now on a journey to running my first 100 miler and who knows where else the trails will lead me but what I do know is that the trails will forever have a special place in my heart.
